“He will be the BEST STAR of the new generation.” – Watani Yasuo “Touches hearts with his amazing and fantastic sound… I sincerely applaud and express my respect to his musical world.” – Su-mi Cho Jong-Seong Park is not only a world-renowned chromatic harmonica performer but also a Korean harmonica performer praised by former Professor of Horner Conservatory, German as “Jong-Seong Park will be the BEST STAR of the new generation” He became the first Korean harmonica soloist wining a gold medal in the Asia-Pacific Harmonica competition in Japan in 2002 and won a triple crown (the field of adult solo, duet, and ensemble) in China in 2008. In addition, he won the first place in Tremolo solo category and the second place in jazz chromatic solo category in the international harmonica competition German being known as the ‘Olympics of Harmonica’ held in every 4 years. He also won Tremolo solo category in All-Japan Harmonica competition 2011. Jong-Seong Park started learning harmonica by chance at his age of 13 with his devoted teacher Kwang-kyu Choi. He majored in the department of Postmodern music at Kyunghee University, and he played a major role in raising the reputation of harmonica and graduated with the Presidential Award as the overall head of college of arts. Since then he majored in orchestra conducting as a master’s degree in Hanyang University studying under Hee-joon Choi to expand his musical field. After his first album “Dimple” and tremolo harmonica special album “Run Again”, has been released, he held a solo recital at IBK Chamber Hall of the Seoul Arts Center and had another concert at KT&G Sangsang Madang with explosive reactions. In addition, as the invitation of world-famous soprano Jo Su-mi, he appeared as a soloist for more than 3 years since 2015. She praised, saying, “Jong-Seong Park touches our hearts with his amazing and fantastic sound by his harmonica. I sincerely applaud and express my respect to his musical world.” Since releasing his 3rd album “Harmonicist” in 2019 and LP “Harmonicist” in 2020, Mr. Park collaborated with Orchestra Chamber Nouvel Europe, Korean Symphony Orchestra, Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra, Prime Philharmonic Orchestra, Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra, Ulsan Philharmonic Orchestra, Gimcheon Symphony Orchestra, Gangnam Symphony Orchestra, Busan Symphony Orchestra, and TIMF Ensemble, and he is active on Korea festivals including Jeju International Orchestra Festival and the Gwangju Orchestra Festival. He held a number of solo recitals including 2019 Seoul Arts Center album release concert, 2020 Lotte Concert Hall "Cine Concert" and 2021 Seoul Arts Center Artist Lounge, and finally in 2021, he premiered with the dedication of “Harmonica Memorial” composed by Hyung-Joon Kim, which is the first harmonica concerto in Korea, and he hosts “Jong-Seong Park’s Orchestra Project” leading a huge orchestra with a harmonica to suggest new possibilities of harmonica.

세계적인 크로매틱 하모니카 연주자이자 전 독일 호너 콘서바토리 교수 와타니 야스오가 “새 시대를 짊어질 대스타가 될 것”이라 격찬한 한국의 하모니카 연주자. 2002년 일본에서 열린 아시아-태평양 하모니카 대회에서 청소년 트레몰로 솔로 부문 금상을 수상하며 국내 하모니카 솔리스트로서는 최초의 국제대회 수상자가 되었고 2008년 중국에서 열린 동 대회에서는 총 3개 부문에서 1위를 차지하며 3관왕(성인독주부문, 2중주, 앙상블)의 영예를 안았다. 또한 ‘하모니카의 올림픽’이라 불리며 4년마다 독일에서 개최되는 세계 하모니카대회에서 자작곡으로 한국인 최초 트레몰로 솔로 부문 1위, 재즈 크로매틱 솔로 부문에서도 2위를 차지하는 쾌거를 이뤘다. 또한 2011년에는 전일본 하모니카 대회에서 트레몰로 솔로 부문에서도 우승을 차지하였다. 13세 때 우연한 기회에 하모니카를 배우기 시작하였으며 스승 최광규로부터 헌신적인 가르침을 받았다. 그는 경희대학교 포스트모던 음악학과에 하모니카 전공으로 입학하게 되었는데, 이는 국내 대학에서 하모니카를 전공한 최초의 사례로 하모니카의 위상을 높이는 데 큰 역할을 하게 되었고 총장상을 수상하며 예술대 전체 수석으로 졸업했다. 이후 한양대학교 음악대학원에서 최희준 교수 사사로 오케스트라 지휘 석사 과정을 밟으며 음악 영역을 넓혀왔다. 첫번째 앨범 과 트레몰로 하모니카 스페셜 앨범 발표 후 예술의전당 IBK챔버홀에서 단독 콘서트를 가졌으며 폭발적인 반응과 함께 KT&G 상상마당에서 앵콜 공연을 가졌다. 뿐만 아니라 세계적인 소프라노 조수미의 초청으로 2015년부터 3년 이상 전국투어 콘서트 솔리스트로도 동반 출연해 왔다. 조수미는 “하모니카라는 작은 악기로 만드는 놀랍고도 환상적인 소리로 우리의 심금을 울리는 박종성의 음악세계에 큰 갈채와 경의를 표한다”며 칭찬을 아끼지 않았다. 2019년 세번째 음반 , 2020년 LP 를 발매한 하모니시스트 박종성은 오케스트라챔버누벨유럽, 국립심포니오케스트라, 경기필하모닉오케스트라, 프라임필하모닉오케스트라, 수원시립교향악단, 울산시립교향악단, 김천시립교향악단, 강남심포니오케스트라, 부산심포니오케스트라, TIMF앙상블 등 다수의 오케스트라와 협연을 이어왔으며, 제주국제관악제, 광주관악페스티벌에 초청받는 등 국내 페스티벌 무대에서도 활발히 활동하고 있다. 2023년 1월 홍콩 초청 공연을 비롯 그간 다수의 단독 콘서트를 가져온 박종성은, 국내 최초로 작곡된 하모니카 협주곡 (김형준 곡)을 헌정받아 초연하고, 하모니카와 오케스트라의 협연곡만으로 구성된 ‘박종성의 오케스트라 프로젝트’를 연이어 개최하며 하모니카의 새로운 가능성을 끊임없이 열어가고 있다. 박종성은, 하모니카를 세상에 처음 소개한 독일의 악기 브랜드이자 세계 최고의 하모니카 브랜드 중 하나로 꼽히는 호너(HOHNER) 사의 한국인 최초 클래식 부문 글로벌 아티스트로 선정되어, 세계적인 하모니카 거장인 토미 라일리(클래식), 투츠 틸레망스(재즈), 그리고 밥 딜런(팝) 등이 속한 글로벌 호너 아티스트 명단에 이름을 올리게 되었다.
