With his excellent musical understanding and solid organization, Song-Hyeon Kim won second place at the 2023 Isang Yun International Music Competition, as well as two special prizes: the Seong-Yawng Park Special Prize and the UNESCO Creative City of Music Special Award (Audience Prize), powerfully announcing the emergence of a next-generation pianist. In 2024, he won First Prize at the New York Liszt International Piano Competition, making his debut at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. Prior to this, he won prizes at the Chicago International Music Competition, Sendai International Music Competition, Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians, and is building an active international career, including selected as a finalist at the 64th Ferruccio Busoni Competition. He has performed with prominent orchestras including the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, the Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia, the Korean National Symphony Orchestra, the KBS Symphony Orchestra, the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Chuncheon Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hankyung Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also shown a deep love and commitment to chamber music. In the age of 16, he performed at Alice Tully Hall at the invitation of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and he also performed at Jordan Hall with the Borromeo String Quartet, one of America’s leading string quartets. His first album, Liszt & Bartók: Potential, was released in 2023 After graduating from Yewon School, he moved to the United States while attending Seoul Arts High School. He completed his Bachelor’s degree at the New England Conservatory, where he is currently pursuing his Master’s degree. His teachers include Hae-Sun Paik, Soo-Jung Shin, Hye-Young Kang, Jin-Sang Lee, Dang Thai Son, and Marc-André Hamelin. He received the Honorary Diploma from Seoul Arts High School in 2024.
